This Executive, privately owned, four bedrooms, three bathrooms, detached, fully air conditioned home with screened pool, is situated at the prestigious community of Southern Dunes Golf and Country Club. Located south of Orlando.
Just outside the main gates of Southern Dunes. This store is huge, it is open 24 hrs a day and sells everything that you will need whilst in America and even more that you will want to bring home. Prices are the cheapest you will find whilst shopping in the States. Food, beer, soft drinks, clothes. The list is endless. The Wal-Mart Deli is particularly good for fast food, sub sandwiches that are typically American (in other word huge!), Southern Fried chicken that is better value for money than either Popeye’s or KFC. Check the store out as soon as you arrive…you will not be disappointed!
Located across the road from Southern Dunes on US 27. The All-American hamburger! A must if you like the good old fashioned burger and fries.
Exit Southern Dunes turn left on US 27 and Popeye’s is on your right. Fried Chicken and Biscuits. Slightly further down and again on your right is KFC. Both good, if you fancy eating out or just a “carry out”.
Exit Southern Dunes, turn left on US27 approx ½ mile on the right. Chops, Ribs, Chicken, Fajitas, Steaks and Seafood - need we say anymore? Excellent Value - You will not be disappointed!!
Just outside Southern Dunes. Good - but Wal-Mart sells everything they do and more often or not it’s cheaper!! - Still worth a look though.
Exit Southern Dunes, turn left and Walgreen’s is found on your right. Remember Wal-Mart sells most of what you will need in this area as well.
Exit Southern Dunes, straight across at the lights and you will find the store situated in a recently complete retail development. It sells Wines and Spirits…. a big selection. Haines City is totally ‘dry’ on a Sunday (Florida local law) so please remember to stock up with all your alcoholic beverages beforehand if you feel the need for a refreshing drink.
A real McDonalds – American style!! Right opposite Wal-Mart – You can’t miss it!
Popular throughout America - Great All day Breakfast Menu. Lunch and dinner menu as well, very reasonably priced. Their burger meals are excellent. Located north (about 5 miles) on H.27 on the right hand side of the road just past the junction with I.4. Their coffee is excellent. Open 24hrs.
The family diner. Great good value for money 24 hr American family restaurant. Located on the left, heading north on H.27 (about 5 miles).
Superb food excellent service. Probably the best meal you will enjoy whilst in America!! It’s not on the doorstep it’s in Kissimmee, but well worth the drive. Exit Southern Dunes and drive North along US 27. Continue over the I.4. Continue up this road for another 7 miles or so. You will then come to a major exit sign on your right advising of 192 and Disney. Exit right onto 192. Travel along this road for around 3 miles or so. Look out for a large Chinese Dragon on your right. Turn right at this point and you will see The Outback ahead of you on the corner in the shopping area. When looking out for the Dragon there is also an Eckards Drug store just before. If you want to eat early, before 7pm they have a Happy Hour - two drinks for the price of one. Try the Bloomin’ Onion or the Coconut Shrimps!
As you drive around on your holiday other good value eating establishments are. Sizzler, Red Lobster (superb for fish!) and the Ponderosa. The Golden Corral very close to the Outback is a huge All-American Buffet restaurant, very popular with the Americans.
Don’t forget to try the Clubhouse at Southern Dunes. The breakfast and lunch menu is extremely good value. You can have a drink and not have to worry about the driving (in the car that is!).
Food is in abundance everywhere; best value for money is outside Disney! One of the best complexes of “eateries” is off the Interstate 4 (I.4.) on junction 68 (Old junction 27). The area is called “Crossroads” and famous names include - Jungle Jim’s, Chevy’s, T.G.I.F’s, Red Lobster, Pizzeria Uno and much more. (And watch out for Hooters!)
Remember there are numerous restaurants to choose from in and around Disney and Universal – Look out for the B-Line Diner at the Peabody Hotel, Cracker Barrel, Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock Café – to name just a few more!
All theme park tickets are readily available from specialist ticket outlets, in and around the Orlando area - (this will save you queuing at the normal entrance ticket offices and should save you money and more importantly time!) ………………. However, if all else fails, they can still be purchased at the Parks themselves.
Disney Passes – Suggest 5-day hopper plus, which includes 2 separate water park passes.
Universal – Suggest 2 or 3-day escape passes which allows you to choose the days you want to go. In addition, it will also allow you enter the parks early (7 to 10a.m.) with guaranteed rides within 15 minutes of queuing – well worth the early start!!
A must if you like marine life combined with superb rides .
The famous Saturn 5 rocket, Shuttles and so much more.
and many more attractions.
Off I.4, Junction 68(old junction 27 going east from Southern Dunes), down slip road, over lights, follow road which runs parallel with I.4; about ½ mile in right, you can’t miss it! Names include - Nike, Adidas, Tommy Hilfiger, Timberland, Ralph Lauren and too many more to mention.
Prime (formerly known as Beltz) Factory Outlets – Off I.4, Junction 75A/75B (old junction 30) - you will see signs everywhere pointing you in the right direction – A “shopaholics” paradise!
Millenia Mall (off I.4 Junction 78)
Lake Buena Vista Factory outlets (I.4, junction 68, right onto the 535 – approx. 2 miles on left). Eagle Ridge Shopping Mall, Lake Wells (south from Southern Dunes approx. 8 miles on left on Highway 27). Florida Mall – off the 1.4, east bound towards Universal – see free local maps, which are widely available. These are just a few of our favorites.
We have left our copy of “the Brit’s guide to Florida” at our home (under TV in lounge) to help you with your holiday – we know that you will find it invaluable in planning your holiday, as we did the first time we ever visited Florida.
The list could be endless. What we have tried to do here is to give you a useful starting point so that you hit the road running! You will no doubt find your own favorites.
